    broken hydrometer?
So yesterday I got my first ball python :D I also bought all the necessary equipment. Well I set everything up and it took a little adjustment to get the temps right but everything is fine now, except one problem - my zilla thermometer/hydrometer isn't displaying the humidity. I have the thermometer probe on top of the substrate in the warm hide and the hydrometer probe on the cool side taped to the glass (bad placement maybe?). and the actual unit is outside of my tank (don't know if this makes a difference)

The thermometer reading seems accurate but for humidity it just displays "--%". It's been like that for a day already. I emailed zilla about it but on their website it says it can take 2-3 days to receive a response so I was wondering if anyone here would have any idea whats going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

btw - I just signed up but I've been lurking for a while and this forum has taught me so much already. I love it :P

Tape in a tank for a ball python is a NO NO. The tape could come loose when hes at night roaming around, and he could stick to it if it ever peels so slightly, the snake will panic and it will get worse.. Just a heads up though. As well, I would take back the thermometer/hygrometer (if you can) And just buy an Acu-rite thermometer/hygrometer with a probe, you would put the probe on the warm side, on the substrate, and mount the device in the tub, or tank on the cool side, that way you can measure the warm side temps and the ambient temps as well as humidity, plus acu-rites are cheaper, and more accurate. You should be fine. Get us some pics after he settles in for a week! Oh and WELCOME to BP.net!
    Hope this helps

oops - the tape is out. I was actually going to get the acu-rite but my walmart doesn't stock them. I'll probably end up ordering it online. Thank you for all the info and I'll definitely have some pics up when he settles in :)

Good, yeah where I live (Canada) I can never find acu-rite. So I'm gonna try to order them in bulk when I get more snakes.
