heat in tank?

All of my ball pythons are in a rack, but I have an appropriately sized tank that I would like to put one of them in so that I can put it in the living room. It has a heating pad underneath, and I have a heat lamp. However, I can't get the temperature right on either side. If the heat lamp is plugged in then the cold side is 81 degrees but the warm side is like 100 degrees and the humiditiy is practically zero, and if its not plugged in then the cold side is 75 and the warm side is 95. If I plug the pad into the thermostat that my rack is plugged into then the warm side drops to 80 because the probe isn't in the tank. I definately can't afford to get the tank its own thermostat. So, basically, I was just wondering if anybody had any suggestions. Thanks.

Well it may not help, but here's my set up. I've got a 10 gallon with a UTH on one side(hot side) and the lamp on the other side(cool side). The UTH is connected to a Tstat. Occasionaly I'll mist if needed. The day bulb in the lamp heats the cool side to almost 86 if the room temp is up (if this happens I usually adjust the lamp by putting very small stack of tiles between part of the lamp and the tanks top allowing a little bit of heat to escape). Most of my screen is covered with tin foil and a layer of duct tape. Because I live in a place where night temps drop very low at night in the winter I've got insulation covering 3 of the 4 sides. I don't know if your tank is for an adult or a youngin, but let me know if you have any questions about mine.

O... and I would think that if your tstat is set to say 92 for the tubs then you could use it for the tank also by adjusting whatever it is on the surface.

I have a 20 gallon. I have an UTH on the cool side, and a 75 watt "moonlight" heat bulb on the warm side. Cool side is always between 80-85 and warm side stays about 92. I also have plastic wrap over 3/4 of the screen, and tin foil over that. A large enough water dish provides enough humidity, and I mist during shed.

I also just cut a hole through the tin foil for a fish type lamp (the long ones). It takes 2 15watt bulbs. I have this and the uth both on the cool side, and each is on a timer. The timer alternates them every 12 hours, so during the day its 12 hours of light and at night its 12 hours of uth. This has maintained the same heat levels on the cool side of 80-85 for a couple days now with no problems, and its great to have some light in there during the day to show off. And like i said, the heat lamp on the warm side is always on, but its just a moonlight bulb so its not much light.

Well the only way to control your temps is a thermostat, if you really cannot afford one a rheostat for the time being will do.

Get one for the warm side (controlling your UTH) and one for the cool side (controlling your heat lamp).

Keep in mind that a heat lamp is not the best when it comes to humidity and it would be best to use a second UTH for the cool side also.
