Female Ball Pythons Laying eggs for no reason...?
I was reading something in the news section on snakes and some lady who LOVES snakes realized her snake was a girl when it produced a undeveloped egg???
does this really happen?? My love bird used to do it sometimes but I never knew a snake could do it??? I figured they needed to be cooled down and all that stuff before they could breed or lay eggs???
This is a quote from the article... it can be found in the news section as well.
it's under "Snake lady loves her reptiles"
"Lang got Mike for Christmas during her second year of teaching. Her students named the snake after the father of the most popular girl in class. Only after Mike produced an undeveloped egg did Lang realize it was a female snake. Mike was in Lang's classroom after she started teaching at Triton in Dodge Center. But the district banned classroom pets and Mike moved into the Lang home. "

My beardie used to do it all the time. I have heard that BP's can do that also though...
Re: Female Ball Pythons Laying eggs for no reason...?
The snake likely was exposed to a male sometime in its life, or they mistook the "egg" for a urate.
Re: Female Ball Pythons Laying eggs for no reason...?
it does happen... there are at least 3 threads on the subject on this forum...

I used to have a female corn who laid a clutch of infertile eggs; she was never bred. Not sure about bps, but it's no un-heard of in corns.
