Rack and flexwatt question
for those of you with racks that heat them with flexwatt i have a question for you. i am going to make a rack soon and heat it via the belly method the question is does the flexwatt need to be covered with aluminium tape or anything for that matter? also is the whole thing a open live wire or other than the contact points is it insulated?
Re: Rack and flexwatt question
If the tubs are going to slide directly on the flexwatt then it is recommended you put something (aluminum tape being the easiest) over it so the flex does get rubbed exessively.
The flexwatt has a thick mylar coating on it ( you tape the open end and the end with the wires needs to be sealed...so no it is not open wires.
Let me know if you have other questions.

Try to avoid classic eletrical tape though. As mentioned above, with belly heat, there will be significant wear on the tape from bins sliding in and out constantly. My friend got a very good zap from an exsposed contact point once, so be careful.

not hijacking this thread but I have a question.. if you recess the flex wire into the shelf, do you still need to cover it? or at least use the aluminum tape to hold the ends down?

You still need to hold it down but you don't have to cover it as the tubs shouldn't come in direct contact with it. :)
