Got a little lost in the woods!
Mark and I had the day free yesterday after noon. So we decided to go investigate some nearby hiking trails in the County Forestry area. There is a roadside area to park and some restrooms and then you can hike about 6-odd miles of trails.
There was a little hut that you pass through with maps on the walls. First off, they were very hard to read, and the trails definately did not match up to them in real life, the way that they were painted on the map! We found this out later.. So we figure, we are good-enough woodspeople.. we won't get lost..
About 2 hours later we realized that the forest was eating any delusions that we might have had about where we were. We did not go off the trail; but it was a "yellow trail" and, well, it branched off into weird sections that were NOT on the map in the trailhead!! Worse yet, there were no signs. We figured at first that we would just backtrack.. into it, we changed our mind to loop around.. but we seemed to be getting nowhere and it was getting later! Not one other soul was even around to ask for help and possibly get shot/killed/plundered by..
Three hours later we made it to our truck.. only to find this weird couple in a parked car partaking of illegal substances. Enough was enough.. we are sticking to our own neck of the woods from now on! ;)

Glad you found your wat outta the woods! lol
I think it's fun getting lost in the woods... We used to do it on purpose as kids.
We would take our bikes out and see how lost we could get. Usually we would find a highway eventually.
Did you see any animals on your adventures???

I hate it when that happens when you don't intend for it to.

We used to go on the longest trail rides. Sometimes overnight. I live in the Idaho Panhandle so there is a lot of forrest and mountains to explore. Especially by horseback. I miss doing that. We'd get lost a lot though, way out there in the middle of nowhere.

It was actually pretty fun. I wish that Mark and I were in better shape though; we were panting up and down some of the steep hills! We actually walked most of the trail where it is setup for trail riding; had to dodge a lot of "road obstacles" too ;) Our horses really are not trained well enough yet to take out safely, but next year I am whipping them into shape; too much happened this year with the wedding and all..
We were kind of stupid for not taking along a snack or drinks; we will definately do that next time!
We found out that this is where an older local guy had a heart attack and died several years back. He had left a note that he was going out hiking, and had parked his car in the lot and gone, and died and was found out on the trail. But then again, this seems like a much better way of dying to me than in a hospital bed..

I get lost in the woods every chance I get. My dog didn't like it last month. Made a wrong turn and our six mile hike was more like 9 or 10 miles in the rain. I loved to take entire days to hike. Years ago I asked my ex to babysit while I took the dogs out. I told him I would be gone all day. We lived out in the middle of no where. I left about 6am and got home at midnight to find a search party forming in my yard. I had warned him it was going to take all day.
