Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
I've just set it up... T-stat probe on UTH. T-mometer probe on the surface. (I realized a while ago that I must have put too much aspen in the tank/packed it down too much b/c to get a decnt hot side temp on the surface the UTH was upwards of  120degrees  ). Now I can finally control that.
I've taken out a few handfuls of Aspen on that side to hopefully prevent it from sucking out the all of the heat form the UTH. Just for future references how hot can a heat pad get without burning a BP?
On a side note I didn't realize I could hook up a 2nd probe to the Herpstat, another addition to my argument w/ my girlfriend on why I can't have just onesnake . :D
Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
the UTH should never get hotter then 100˚ in my book, and even that is pretty hot...
Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
I've got the Tstat set to 95 right now and my surface temp is about 93.7 so I think removing the extra Aspen was the trick. I'm sure 95 wouldn't burn.
Strange Tstat, in the instruction book it says if the LED is Red it means this, if it's Yellow it means this, and if Green it means this. Unfortuanetly for me the thing is half Orange Half Green right now, O well.
Thanks for the feedback.
Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
I believe 95 is the highest you should ever go.
Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
T stat for the balls is set at 97 and the inside of their hides on the hot side stays at 95.4

Pork Chops N' Corn Bread,
What substrate are you using/ how deep? I'm assuming your probe placements are the same as mine.
Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
Aspen about 1/2" deep. The probe is on the Flex under the tubs.
Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
I use UTH and this morning I checked it and it was 95F WOW!
I was actually measuring my temps wrong. I had the thermometer on the top of the hide and it read 88 or something like that.
So I moved it down to the floor for the night and when I woke up it was 95F.
Can't wait for my thermostat to arrive. It's been in the mail since Monday!
I also moved the lights to the cool side cause it was kinda cold. It was reading 76F inside the hides but now this morning it is reading 82-83F inside the hides. Still kinda of warm but again hopefully my thermostats come soon! I could use them right about now!
Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
There's nothing wrong with 95 degrees, just don't go over that. Mine are kept at 95 on the hot side and 84 on the cool side, and they do just fine. Eat every week, thermoregulate normally. No complaints here.
Re: Anyone know what surface temp will burn a BP?
Yeah but I NEVER see her on the hot side... Only after I put her back in she will run over there to the hot side for a few minutes but will head back over to the cool side eventualy...
So it leaves me to think it's too hot I guess...
But your probably right, it's not a bad thing!
