Almost there - Need some feedback!
Ok so I got my tank setup and I think all is just about ready. Heres what I got going on...
1 10-Gal critter keeper
1 UTH on a reptitemp thermostat Warm side 97
1 ceramic lamp w/ 100watt infrared heat light on a rheostat (my cool side wouldn't get above 75)
Cypress mulch lightly misted 70% humidity
2 medium hides on either side
water bowl on the cooler side to regulate humity
Tin-foil/Duct tape hood with a lock
1 indoor/outdoor thermostat w/ humidty
I want to make 110% sure i'm ready to pick up the snake, i'll post some pics if anyone wants to see. Any/all feedback pls.
Re: Almost there - Need some feedback!
how refreshing to see someone get set up FIRST and then purchase the snake, good job.
i'd say your warm side and humidity are a tad high, otherwise sounds good.be careful about misting,BP's can get skin problems from too much moisture.have fun !

I would drop the warm side temps down to low 90's

You didn't say what you got it up to? But you should shot for low-mid 80's

Humidity needs to be 50's all the time (except for sheds when you can bump to mid 60's.

Depending on the size of the snake "medium" might be too big. You want it so he has to squeeze in so he touches all the sides. (they like it tight and secure)
Looking good just a couple things to dial in and it will be time to bring your baby home. :)
Re: Almost there - Need some feedback!
I second that. Sounds like you've got it pretty good, but try to lower the hot side to about 92 instead and let the humidity drop to around 55%. I had cypress in my tank for a while (until I saw her get a piece caught against her jaw, now I have aspen in there) and when you first mist that stuff it takes the humidity sky high. I would say just mist it maybe once a month or when it seems really dry (ie drops down to below 50).
Can you take some pix and post them for us to take a look at your setup? That would really help with giving advice...and it would be nice to see it. :)
(BTW, here's a pic of my tank if you wish to see it: http://www.ball-pythons.net/gallery/...aginishome.jpg)
Re: Almost there - Need some feedback!
Humidity is down to 60% (i'll let it drop a little more) I took off a little of the tin foil to let some humidity escape. Warm side is down to 93.6 and my cool side is 85.5, i'm going to grab another Reptitemp for the heat light, my cool side got up to 89 with the rheostat at it's lowest setting. I'll grab some smaller hides when I pick up the snake and i'll also keep an eye on the cypress. My battery just crapped out in my cam i'll take some pics and post tomorrow.
Argentra, your tank looks nice i like the natural look thats what i'm going for once i get her/him in a bigger tank and have some space to put stuff.
Re: Almost there - Need some feedback!
Thanks. :) And I hear you about the space thing. My corn snake is in a 10gal just like yours (until Nagini is out of the 20) and there is barely room for his two hides, water dish, and a climbing 'tree'.
Just one more piece of advice for ya: Get a better t-stat, like a Johnson or Ranco, ASAP. Those Reptitemp stats are ok for the short run, but have a nasty reputation of suddenly quitting so I have heard.

It's just temporary, once he/she gets into a larger tank I plan to get a better tstat. Ok so my temps are as follows....
Warm - 92.2
Cool - 83.1
Humidity - 56%
Been steading at those temps for the past 36 hours, I think all is well (I hope!) I have an appointment @ NERD tomorrow to see some morphs & normals, hopefully i'll find one I like. Pics to come!!
