I would say that you could probably run about 7 of those with that Helix DBS-1000. That is assuming that you get them all with belly or all with back heat. That thermostat is rated at 500 watts. So, calculate the watts per rack, and divide to figure out how many racks you can control.

I would get belly heat for all the racks. Each rack uses 3" flexwatt on each tub. So if thats four tubs and he's probably using one foot per tub (I'm guessing) and its 10watts per foot.

So thats 40watts per rack? And if the thermostat can handle 500, then it can do 10 safely? Maybe? I dunno. I just don't want to be putting to many racks on one thermostat and end up with a problem. The only snakes going into racks will be ball pythons since that is the kind of snake I intend on getting more of.

The flex in the belly heat application of the RBI racks is wound between the shelves. I.E. it's ran across the top shelf, then down the side of the second and across the shelf itself, then down the side of the next one.. It's a single, continuous piece top to bottom, just wound back and forth like an S

Ah, well the information on the rack is not telling me how many watts it takes to run. :(

Email them and see how much feet of flexwatt is on each shelf. Then you'll know for sure. And so long as you're using the same size flexwatt and same method (both belly or both back) then you can definately run multiple racks.

just did some quick math to get the measurements for you. Each rack uses a total of approx. 83.5" of flexwatt. At 10 watts per foot, that's just under 70 watts per rack. You could safely run 6 of those on a Helix thermostat, and 7 might be possible but is pushing it a little too close for my comfort.

Yep, I contacted Rich and he said 6 can be run safely on one Helix DBS1000. I'm excited because that means I can get more racks next year. :carrot:
