Popping question for people who've popped corns, too
I've never popped a BP, but is the technique pretty much the same as popping a corn? I can pop and prope corns just fine, but before I go try it on a bp, is there anything different about it or any special tips from popping one species vs. the other?
Re: Popping question for people who've popped corns, too
Nope, pretty much the same. I think corns are easier to get them to pop though.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean easier like they're more willing, or easier as in it's less effort on your part?

It easier for you. As far as "they" are concerned, corns wiggle around more. I can't imagine it feels very pleasant.
Re: Popping question for people who've popped corns, too
Any tips on how to do this? I have 2 07 babies right now (under 100gs) and would like to pop them to make sure they are what theyre supposed to be. Im pretty sure Im just going to take em to the local snake guy and have him show me since hes done it a million times but Id like some opinions from other experienced breeders. Do the majority of you pop or probe you little ones?
Re: Popping question for people who've popped corns, too
can i add a question
is it dangerous to 'pop' your snake for the first time? like there is with beginners and probing? i've seen several demonstartions at the show, i think i got the technique down
Re: Popping question for people who've popped corns, too
I'd like to know about popping too.
How easy is it to learn to pop snakes to determine their sex? Is it possible to learn from reading online and looking at pics? Or is it really not a good idea to try without someone who knows what they are doing instructing in person?
I'd appreciate any advise or links anyone can post, especially pics! How do you do it? What do you look for to determine the sex? How big is to big for popping?
I'm primarily interested in ball pythons, but I guess it would be a lot the same for other species of snake as well?
Thanks!
Re: Popping question for people who've popped corns, too
I was looking into learning that too, but you can really hurt the snake if you dont know what your doing, with both poping and probing.
I'd get someone to show you face to face and let you try under supervision!
I still dont know how to do it... I even paid 20 bucks for probes and can't find anyone to help me... and I don't trust my vet personally!
Good Luck!
Re: Popping question for people who've popped corns, too
I had someone show me how to pop and probe cornsnakes. Both are mega easy to do, but are something you should really have someone show you.
Anyways, well I tried to pop my pastel male and couldn't get anything to pop. I don't doubt the sex as it's from a reputable breeder. I used the same technique I use on corns, but nada. I'll probably just try and find someone local to show me how to do it on a bp.
