parallel wiring flexwatt

When parallel wiring flex watt together, what gauge wire do you recommend using? I have 4 sets of 4" flex @ 3' per set, 3 sets of 4" flex @ 3' per set and 3 sets of 11" @ 1' per set. Should I just go with the 12 gauge wire between each strip of flex to be safe?

Flexwatt draws so little current, don't be too worried about the wire gauge. I have used 18 gauge on all my connections with no problems.

One question though, are you planning on wiring all the above in one circuit? If so, you will have one heck of a time with temp. differences, as each size of flexwatt will heat up differently. You should really stick to one size for each circuit and one t-stat for each size.

Thanks Evan, I will have 3 different circuits(plugs). I know better than to try and run the 4" and 11" on the same plug :). 4 strips of 4" on one plug,3 strips of 4" on another plug and 3 strips of the 11" on yet another plug.

I was worried about the amps. They tell you the watt per foot but not the amp. I already have a small rack that I'm quickly growing out of and I'm fininshing up a much bigger, 10 shelf rack. Just trying not to burn my. house down :).

I am having fun, building racks is almost as rewarding as raising herps.

To figure out the amps. you can use this formula. It is pretty easy as long as you have basic algebra skills.

watts = voltage * amps

I usually buy the cheap lamp cord extension cords from WalMart or Lowe's for my flexwatt. If you shop around just a little, you can buy them cheaper than bulk wire, and they come with a plug. Just cut the receptacle end off.
