Re: Rodent to snake ratio?
With 6 months of food in the freezer and only 5 snakes why do you want to breed? If you already have them eating F/T then breeding live would seem like a waste of time/money as F/T would still be cheaper in the long run...or is there some other reason?
Re: Rodent to snake ratio?
I have about 5 females for every snake now, thats about 70 females I think
Re: Rodent to snake ratio?
After all that food is gone id rather make my own food than order it. With 30 some bucks in shipping it is just crazy.

Ok...I did a little math for you just so you can see how this works
I assumed all the same size just for ease of math
5 snakes means 5 rats per week * 26 weeks (6 months) = 130 rats
To buy at the pet store = 130 rats * $4 = $520 (avg.)
To buy F/T from a .com = 130 rats * $0.92 = $120 (avg.)
($0.69 each rat + $0.23 ) ($0.23 is what is costs to ship each rat total = $30)
To breed = $146
I assumed 12 breeder females and 2 males * $4 = $56 + Monthly Food/Bedding = $15 * 6 month = $90 (and you have to buy/build housing for all of them = $??)
Take this to a year: 260 rats
Buy F/T = $192 (since you could buy the whole year at once the per rat cost goes down)
To Breed = $236 (getting closer but still not worth it)
Breeding makes sense when all your snakes will eat is Live but not when they will eat F/T
Just food for thought...but if you decide to move forward with breeding get 12 beeders. Send me a PM if you want to know how I come up with this number.
