    quick question about an injury
the first 3 months i had my male BP he wouldn't eat any of the thawed rats i would offer him so i switched to live rats because i was worried about his health. hes been on live rats for about 3 months now and i haven't had a problem but i noticed what i believe is a bite mark today, i think he got it yesterday when i fed him.

    here are some pictures

i doesn't look very deep from what i can see, and nothing is coming out of it. is there something i should do about this?

you can get first aid ointment for snakes at petsmart or most other petstores.

In the future you might want to keep something around (like a pencil) in case you see that the rat is able to get a hold on your snake. Just shove the eraser into its mouth and problem solved (Ive used it a few times). But as for treating it now I'm really not too sure as I haven't had to treat one yet sorry :(

You can also use Neosporin or Polysporin as long as you be sure to get the kind that does not have pain reliever in it.

    Wow...DeJa Vu,

My boy got a good gash last night from his meal, but it was from the rat's back claw. A gash about an inch long and some good bleeding. I put light pressure on it and got it stopped and put some generic neo sporin on it because thats all I had. Had Monty for 5 years and this was a first for me.

When one of my snakes got bite while killing a rat before I was able to get the tongs between the rat and the snake. I was advised to just make sure it is kept clean and to put neosporin on it. I did and it healed up just fine and as of today there is no mark when the rat got her.

From what I've read, each shed tends to improve things like this.

I feed my BP mice and he almost never gets bit. I feed my JCP big rats and he gets those little marks alot.
