Hello! (Sterilte, water)

Hi everone, Looks like a very useful site. It's the wisdom I seek. I finally went from glass aquarium to Sterilite tubs (aspen bedding). Cleanup should be a breeze and I can save my aching back for other things. I had larger tubs for water in the glass tanks, but now just small tupperware dishes in the Sterilite tubs. Do you think soaking space is important? Or just a dish for drinking water? Also, I now use bottled water instead of tap - is this a good idea?

I have more questions I'll post in the appropriate forum...

This is what we use for most of our water dishes. Ceramic ramekins come in a variety of sizes, are heavy so they don't tip easily, are easy to clean and see if they are dirty, being pure white, and are dish washer safe so can be sterlized that way if need be. You can find them at dollar stores, department stores and most any restaurant supply or big box type store.

Unless your tap water is nasty for some reason you really don't have to use bottled water and should never use distilled water.

Yeah, our water is hard...it leaves white crusties. I won't even drink it.

Welcome aboard, Dan! :) Aren't tubs lovely? They're not too aesthetically pleasing, but lightweight, easy to clean and comfy for my BP are all things in tubs' favor! I use a small ceramic dish for the water bowl in my BP's tub. Auryn doesn't ever really soak, even though I imagine he could cram himself into the bowl if he really tried!

If your water's icky--I'd suggest using a Brita or Pur water pitcher over bottled (for yourself and your snake). I can't drink the tap out at school, as it's pretty gross, and I found that having one of those pitchers makes the water taste good and it's cheaper in the long run (and more ecologically friendly) than buying water bottles all the time. Just a thought, though :)

That's one of the reasons, Kim, that we are slowly moving our whole collection into Iris brand tubs (I swear I should get a kickback for promoting this company LOL). They really are glass clear so you get the benefits of a glass tank but none of the hassles of one. The inside of an Iris tub is smooth, no ridges or such like so no more picking feces and hard urates out of some rotten ridged area. A real time saver for me and Mike let me tell you. The other nice thing with Iris is they tend to stay with a tub design so if you build a rack around a certain size, they haven't gone and changed it the next week on you.
