Heat Question!!

SO I'm switching Spartan to his tub, the herpstat connected to the flex is working fine, but the heat in the tub is at like 78.3 when the herpstat is set to 94, its been running all night and day, I don't get it, I'm a noob to this stuff, so help would be appreciated please!

No idea.. my heat's off, too.. it's at like 92 - 93.. and it's set on lowest setting on rheostat.

Exactly how do you have it all set up?
Is the tub sitting directly on the flexwatt?
Where is the Herpstat's probe?
What are you using for substrate, and how much?
Where and how are you measuring temps?
What kind of thermometer are you using?
Does your thermometer have an external probe?
If so, where is the probe?
Are you positive the flexwatt is heating up?

How do you have the heat tape set up? Is it 11" or 4" heat tape? Also--is it taped to the bottom of the tub, or is it loose underneath the tub?

When I first set my tub up, I discovered that the 11" heat tape worked much better than a smaller UTH I had. The smaller UTH couldn't achieve the temps I needed on the inside of the tub. So, I'm using 1ft of 11" flexwatt and I have my Flexwatt taped with aluminum tape to the bottom of my tub. The probe for my Herpstat is taped to the bottom of the tape, also using aluminum tape. I'll include a couple photos to show you.

This is a photo of my tub how I first had it set up (it's mostly the same, except for larger hides, as Auryn's grown). I have felt furniture lifts on the bottom of the tub corners, to elevate the tub off the surface of the dresser. The Flexwatt is taped to the bottom of the tub.:

The tub is sitting pretty much on top of the flex, about 1/4" above.
herpstat probe is taped on the flexwatt.
about an inch of coconut bark and asben mixed.
I'm using 2, an Acu-temp (same as acu-rite, couldn't find one in Canada), and the thermometer on sale at bean farm, they both have external probes, the one from bean farm can also read humidity by the probe.
Yes the flaxwatt is fairly warm.

The substrate really doesn't need to be all that thick, 1/2" will suffice. It's only there to absorb waste anyway and it's insulating the heat away from the tub right now. You can probably just stick with plain aspen, as the bark will keep the humidity pretty high.

For temps to be 92-94 in the tub, the thermostat will need to be set higher(97-99 degrees depending on your room temps) than that to achieve those temps. Keep bumping it up a degree and let it settle(20-30 minutes or so), until you reach 93-94.

Will the flexwatt burn?

No, definitely not. It takes ALOT of heat to do that, such as an electricity surge.

Okay so I bumped it up to 97, but nothing yet..., I think I may take off the clips and solder

If it's heating up, everything should be fine. Just give it time to settle and for the bedding and tub to heat up. It may take an hour or so if you just adjusted the temps. No worries!
