I'm sure her parents are really proud at how pretty but incredibly thick their daughter is. It made me laugh out loud for the first time in ages

LOL....I heard that clip on the radio a couple of times yesterday.....made me cringe every time. Just makes ya all warm and fuzzy with confidence in our future generations, doesn't it?

(BTW....I think it was a bogus question to begin with, that 20% of Americans can't find the US on a world map. If I'd been in her shoes, I would have said "Prove it." :colbert: )

 umm..... where did all the talk about south africa come from?!? thought the question was about AMERICANS being able to find AMERICA???
and, i have to agree with judy on this one... if it's a valid question and 20% can't find it, what age group did they poll???

    Hi,

Yeah I don't beleive that either - I mean it's no exactly wee is it? Kinda hard to miss. ( and this from someone who has no idea what state goes where.:P ) I mean even if you spin the globe with your eyes shut and stab randomly haven't you got about a 25% chance of hitting it as long as you get the hemisphere right or something? I dont have a globe to check this out but it might be a fun way to keep the kids quiet for an hour or so if you have one.:D

Whenever someone quotes statistics I always just assume they are being deceptive and demand all the specifics of the data set. In this case the first suspicion is they asked young children. If 20% of your population can't point to where they live put em on a plane and wave goodbye with a glad heart.

I think she studied for a different test...

But seriously, who really thinks a pageant contestestant represents the majority of American students?

I did see one funny comment on one of the articles that left me giggling:
"Whitney Houston called...she no longer believes the children are our future.."

Maybe the 20% in that quoted statistic included all the 1 and 2 year olds who don't even know what a globe is yet.
