    Another reason to be cautious about taking your snakes out in public...

    This is why you need to be cautious about anyone being around your animals... especially kids that don't really understand (and have possibly seen their parents kill snakes on their property, etc).

    We take a couple of our snakes our for regular "walks" in warm weather. Of course we do all the walking - the snakes kinda go along for the shoulder ride.

    People will invariably stop and ask about the animals - just yesterday I had an older lady ask me if I thought it was safe keeping such animals around my children (keep in mind our largest snake is an adult 6' blackhead).

    Initial responses to the snakes are negative, but the blackhead, the womas and the tarahumara boa have such placid and gentle dispositions that I'd like to think they are acting as good ambassodors for the species. At any rate, many of the neighbors who initially responded so negatively now greet us and the snakes by name when they see us.
