Illegal States

My fiance and I have been talking about where we would like to live after college and having sugar gliders prevents us from living in Alaska, California, Georgia, Penn., and Mass. I was wondering if there were any states in which it is illegal to own ball pythons or corn snakes. If not, are there any restrictions on bringing them with us to another state when we move?

All good here in Oregon. My vet in Albany treats sugars. :)

Searching through Google didn't bring me any specific website that clearly states laws covering snakes by state. Pretty much everything I found that way dealt with other "exotics". Probably best once you have a few states in mind to do intensive research, make a few phone calls, etc. Better that than to move and find out later you've got problems or there are restrictions on what you can keep.

Here is some of ILLINOIS:

The following is a brief review of the restrictions on the possession of amphibians and reptiles included among Illinois' regulations.

Endangered and threatened species may not be possessed except by perimit.
The possession limit for native amphibians and reptiles is 16 of each species.
The keeping of all venomous reptiles is prohibited except by permit.
The keeping of crocodilians is prohibited except by permit.
Any constricting snake over six feet in length may not be possessed without permit.

Balls are illegal in NYC.

You need to look it up state by state, try to find the the Wildlife Division Resources website for each state you might me interested in.

In Wyoming there are no regulations on the owning of exotic pets except class 1 which includes tigers, bears, wolves and the like. Even then it isn't hard to get a permit to own them. Its fortunate considering how many snakes I own.

This part is not totaly true unless you do something stupid.When i say something stupid i mean scaring little old ladies or kids with a large snake.Now some areas it is illegal to own any constricting snakes period,yes it includes corn snakes.The only area i know of is Galesburg illinois though.If someone looks at the bye laws it states you can posses a snake up to 18ft long.If someone tries to scare you into giving up your snake because they do not know the laws themselves all it takes is for you to point out the REAL laws:D.I know people in several state positions that do know the proper laws and they also keep reptiles to boot :P .
