I highly recommend them. They have to be the easiest snakes to deal with in the world, and they don't go off feed! ;)

It's hard enough to fight the "I wanna new snake" itch already.....LOL.

hey Morti,
I am definitely buying a RTB in the next year.
However, I need one that stays in the sub-6ft range since I will not have anyone to help me when handling.

I like the look of suri's (who doesn't!) and was thinking perhaps an Amarali might fit the bill. Hogs don't thrill me (not a fan of amel snakes in general).

What do you think? I am planning on a male of whatever species....what is your take on sizes of males for different types of RTB?

Males are definitely the way to go, but most (if not all) of the South American boas are going to get bigger than you want.

I'd honestly try to find a really nice Colombian or Central American male. They stay smaller and have a reduced risk of dropping dead.

I thought columbians got too big :confused:



and what's this about dropping dead?

Colombians are MUCH smaller than Surinames, Guianans, and most of the other South American boas. And South American boas are more... fragile. If you screw up a boas temps and humidity, it's going to probably still be ok. If you screw up a Suri's temps and humidity, it's going to probably regurge and die.

The largest Colombian male I have ever seen personally was about 7' (and I suspect he was a tad over-fed). If you get one from a smaller bloodline, they are likely to stay a bit smaller. I have two females from two different sources that are 6' breeding machines.
