Stud fees?

Do snakes get stud fees? I am thinking of getting a few cool morphs down the road and since I don't really plan on breeding, I was wondering if I should get males and try to stud them out... is this a common practice in the breeding world?

there are things like breeder loans when you pay a fee and one of your animals can breed someone else, then you keep divide up the offspring. i don't know anyone who is ever done this or willing to do this with a normal male/female. the only time i can see it being done is when you have a morph and you breed to someone else's morph to create designer morphs.

if you ant morphs your best bet is to save up some money and buy them.

I agree. There aren't really "stud fees" like you have with horses, dogs, etc. If people lend their animals out it's done in a breeding loan; and then those are usually done so that they benefit both parties. i.e. each has a cool morph so they'll do a breeding loan to get a new combo morph or something.

Well breeder loans can also be when a breeder is friends with someone that wants a morph and all they have is normal female(s). Breeder loans are something that is hard to come by and not just a simple deal. But yea its done. :D

I have done a "breeder project" with a member on this site.We made up a contract and divided up the clutch.This of course takes alot of planning as you need to trust each other and then some.Its more then placing your females or males together as you need to BOTH have healthy animals first off.Then you need to be able to trust whomever has the others snakes to be honest about the clutch outcome.I of course had nothing to worry about in my project :cool:

if you are friends with a breeder and he/she has a ton of animals you might be able to work a deal with them. maybe clean some poop up for a month or so and maybe they'll breed your female to one of there male morphs.

it would be a little harder to fins someone willing to let your normal male breed a morph female. normal males are the bottom of the chain when it comes to worth in breeding. males are great pets but when it comes to breeding the females are worth a little more, since one male can breed many females. i don't know if that makes any sense. like i said before if you really want a morph, find a nice breeder and talk with them about payment plans and go from there.

I should clarify- I was dreaming of the time when I will already have cool morphs! Milton is cool and all, but I don't have any illusions about where normal males rank on the cool-o-meter! :) That and the fact that I don't even know for sure that he's a he! LOL

As for my plan to get said cool morphs, it just involves saving up a bunch of cash! I'm fine with the wait, since it gives me more time to get some experience under my belt! Milton just finished his first 'good' shed last night- got it all off in one piece, and for me that's a milestone! :)
