Troubleshooting

Sophia here, just another person having some husbandry issues with her BP. I have a feeling that they're due mostly to her enclosure - it's wood with a glass front and two small mesh panels on the edge for ventilation. There is a ceramic bulb for heat.

My main problem is that I can't get the 10 degree temperature variation she needs. If it's 80 on the cool side, then it's 85 on the hot side. If I get it up just past 90 on the hot side, the cool side gets way too warm.

I am also wondering about Thermostat. It is not one of the brands you guys normally recommend, but there's no label on it, so I don't know what it actually is. The sensor for it is a little "nipple" that is about 3 inches off the ground. It is on the cool side, and is outside of her hide. Is this okay?

I feel that the solution is to probably switch her out of her enclosure into a tub with a UTH. This is because with this big wooden box I have few options other than the ceramic heat lamp. I'm considering just starting all over - keep the hides, the Accurite, and nothing else (besides the snake, of course).

The good news is that she's eating very well and had a good shed. She is doing much better than before I got her from my dad, who was not able to care for her.

I would suggest to switch into an appropriate sized tub. It would solve all of your heating, and possible humidty, problems and you would have a happy healthy snake!! And you really wouldn't need too much to get it setup. Just the tub, a UTH, possibly a new thermostat (not too sure about what you have), and then get some newspaper for substrate. Good luck with your snake. And make sure you have a waterbowl that is pretty heavy so it won't get tipped over.
