out of aspen and newspaper which is preferred more? and reason being?

im simply asking because i need to lower my humidity which stays at a solid 75% so im wondering if changing substrates will do the trick.

I prefer newspaper, just because of the ease of cleanup, but I've used aspen as well and it works fine too.

Can you describe your setup? You can always try a smaller water bowl as well, or add more ventilation to help lower your humidity.

EDIT - Also check your room's humidity. There's little chance of making the humidity lower than that of the room unless you use a dehumidifer.....

my BP is currently housed in a 20gal tank..with newspaper as substrate..im running a ultratherm UTH which is being monitored by a ranco tstat from reptile basics..i also have the triple layer aluminum foil with double layer duct tape on the lid with a 6x6in cutout for my heatlamp if necessary..and my temps are being monitored by an acurite thermo/hygrometer..i've moved the water bowl far away from the warm side as possible and it drops a little but later in the day its back in the mid 70's..and i dont use a heatlamp on the cool side it was just an idea being as though my cool side temps drop to the low 70's at night..:/

You could pull up some of the duct tape on the lid, that will lower humidity!

but by doing that my cool side temps drop..:/ its like a win lose situation..or should i have the 6x6in cutout placed over the warm side..its currently over the cool side

Yea, try putting the opening on the warm side. Another thing you can do is to get a small fan to circulate the air around your tank better. It will suck some of the humidity out.

just a thought but...

could i use a heatlamp on a dimmer to reduce some of the humidity and in turn keep my cool side temps up as well being as thought they like to drop at night?

and if im using the heat lamp all of it would be used on one side of the tank which is the warm side right?..reason im asking is i saw from a previous post that a user had a heat source on his/her cool side to keep ambient air temps steady.

Heat lamp to keep cool side temps steady, UTH to heat your hot spot.
