cut egg and fluid leaking?
This is for the egg cutters out there. We decided for better or worse to slit one today on day 58/59; there's a nice healthy baby in there! It was astounding to see it and realize how big they are in the egg and how hard it is to apprciate them by mere candling..
So.. how do you deal with leaky fluid? A tiny amount came out, and I did not wipe it because like chicken-egg fluid, I know that it is stuck to itself and instead of wiping a little up, I would be ripping a string of it out. So I left it as is.. any ideas?

look at that tiny pattern!!!

Re: cut egg and fluid leaking?
They will be fine. They will stay in the egg and absorb more of that fluid. I've had them slit the egg and sit in it for two days with just their head sticking out. Congratulations.
Re: cut egg and fluid leaking?
It shouldn't drown, after all, its not im for him to come out. If he peake his head out, and took his first breath, and went back in, under the fluid, then that would worry me.

Your snake is fine. By the looks of the pic I would guess he is probably 4-5 days from coming out. He looks healthy though. I know it's hard but try to leave him alone and let him absorb the rest of the yolk. Congrats on your babies.

Thanks :) I can't express how happy I am about this. :D
Re: cut egg and fluid leaking?
Throw a damp paper towel over it if you're concerned.

I found that some breeders do exactly that. Does it help in any way or is more for piece of mind?
Re: cut egg and fluid leaking?
the leaked fluid isn't going to affect the situation at all. Just don't squeeze the egg and make all of it come out or your snake will end up all sticky and dried out looking from the sudden exposure to air all around it.
Re: cut egg and fluid leaking?
I slit 3 of my eggs that hadn't hatched with the other on Day 60. The more plump ones oozed out a LOT of goo in the initial slitting, but stopped quickly, and I did not squeeze or get curious enough to open it up further.
I just wanted to make the hatching part easier on the little buggers.
I didn't use the scissors to make a cut... I dragged a semi-sharp point along the top until a slight weak line formed and they split on their own. I figured that was as close to what they do as possible... and in the process of me making vibrations from dragging the point, it made the one that hatched start to move and attempt to come out! It was pretty cool.
