How long for a Corn to take the mouse?

I just put my corn (now named Aries) into his feeding tank and dangled the PK hopper in. He struck twice, rattling his tail, but missed the mouse. Not wanting to freak him out, I lay the mouse in front of his hide and closed the top.

I want to know how long, on average, it takes for a yearling corn to take the mouse? It's been a little over half an hour now and he hasn't really touched it.

It depends on the corn. Most will take it right away, others it takes a little longer. All but one of mine will eat right away. But I have an adult lavender who has to be left alone in the closet overnight with her mouse (f/t of course) for her to eat. He may also not want to eat. You can try leaving him in a dark place overnight. If he hasn't eaten it then, then he's probably not going to, maybe he's in shed?

Hmm, he doesn't look it, but I've heard they can be sneaky about shedding.

I did just get him on Saturday, so maybe it's too early, but the breeder said he hadn't fed them before the show so they would be ready to eat for the new owner. Also, might he think it's too big for him and that's why he won't go for it? He seemed hungry when he struck at it, but still hasn't taken it.

He may just not be settled in yet. I would just put it away and leave it completely undisturbed for an entire week. Try not to open the cage or anything and don't handle him. Then after that week, try feeding him. Waiting that week will give him a chance to settle in, and if he's in shed, he will have shed by then.
