fluctuating temps

i seem to be having fluctuating temps once my BP enters and exits her hide i guess from moving the acu~rite probe..so my question to any and everyone on this site..is would it be a problem to tape my acu~rite thermometer probe down (using newspaper as substrate)..its currently sitting on the warm side inside the hide.

I tape all mine down to the tub(warm side) with blue(low stick) tape and put newspaper over so snakes don't pull cord. Works fine for me. I mark the outside of the tub where the flexwatt is so everytime I clean the tubs I know where to put my probes again.

i have my acu~rite in the far right corner (cool side) and i have the probe going under the newpaper to the warm side and i poked a hole inside the corner of the newspaper and i thread it through there into the warm sides hide..but it can still be moved so im wondering is it ok to tape the probe down to reduce all the movement and fluctuating temps..i see some users say that tape inside the enclosure isnt a good idea..but other than that i dont know what else to use. and the tape i had in mind was foil tape.

it IS possible for foil tape to cut, and it's damn sticky too. However, I too tape my probes directly to the bottom of the enclosure, under the newspaper. I use double-sided tape.

I can't remember the person or thread :oops: but someone suggested using the glue from a glue gun ( I think) as it would be stable at the temps involved but was easily removed and, as long as it was cured correctly, there was no danger of it sticking to the snake and causing damage.

Either that or silicone it to the inside of the hide - naturally both these things should be done outside the tank and checked before putting them back in.:)

Do you mean the thermostat probe or the thermometer (accurite) probe?
My thermometer(accurite) probes are in the tub and the thermostat probes are on the outside where they connot be disturbed. I have many different racks and setups but t-stats are always outside. Thats what you may have heard.

How can it be moved? Are you taping to the newspaper? I tape right to the tub floor where the heat source is. I like the low stick tape because even if it gets on the snake(has never happened) it can't do any harm. I'm a contractor so I always have loads of the stuff.

my ranco tstat probe is sandwhiched between the UTH and the glass tank bottom..im talking about the acu~rite (thermo/hygrometer) probe and when you say blue tape? are you referring to painters tape?

Yes, it's a blue masking tape. I tape it to the bottom and run wire under the newpaper feed it out on the oppisite side of enclosure so the wire is not visible. Since I temp control the snake room my accurites are fed outside the enclosure in front of tubs so I can check temps at a glance, but I would leave yours on the cool side of enclosure.
