    heatlamp size...
would anyone happen to know or suggest a certain size heatlamp for a 20 gal tank and the proper bulb wattage, right now im using a 5.5 fluker lamp and a 75watt infrared bulb and it doesnt seem to be keeping things in the "warm" area..any suggestions?

My suggestion would be to avoid the heat lamp altogether.

Get a UTH (under tank heater) and close the screen top off with some aluminum foil.

The only thing an aquarium with a screen top and heat lamp is good for is making beef jerky.

well i use both and the heatlamp i use to keep ambient temps up but it doesnt seem like its doing the job thats why i wanted to see if i needed a larger lamp and or bulb?...

but you say that a UTH alone will keep the enclosure just fine? including ambient air temps.

What type of top are you using for the aquarium?

Screen tops are worthless. Heat rises......so when the top is open screen, all your heat quickly leaves the enclosure.

Close the screen top and your temperture will increase greatly.

yes im using a screen lid that has foil paper on the inside and duct tape on the outside and when you say close the screen top? are you suggesting to close off every hole in the lid..'cause i left out a 6x6in square for the lamp to sit in.

What are you using to measure temperatures and what are the temperatures that you are getting?

A 20 gal. aquarium with 75w lamp, UTH, and closed top should not be too cool.

What are the temperatures in the room?

Is there an A/C vent blowing on or near the enclosure?

im using a zilla digital thermo/hygrometer
    http://reptiledepot.com/New%20Folder...hermometer.jpg

but i read some reviews on it and some users say that its inaccurate so lastnight i went to lowes.com and purchased an acurite which i go in and pick up today.

and the temps in the room im not to sure of but yes there is an AC going but not near the enclosure.
