How do you play?
I was playing with my baby girl Squeakers the other day, and its great! I didn't know rats were so much fun to play with! I usually just chase her around in her rack with my hand, she'll sprint to the back, sprint back up front. Shutter, jump sideways like a crab, roll over, bounce around the cage like a grasshopper, just go crazy!
It always has me cracking up, I just dont know what she'll do next. It surprises me all the time, because my rats that were really shy with me, have now begun to trust me more. I dont know if its the rack, where their tub is only pulled out about 9 inches, or if its the rough-housing and tickling. I think its a combination.
Anyways, we play with all the rats now everyday for about 20 minutes each. Its enjoyable for everyone. :D :D

Re: How do you play?
I get my crestie water squirt bottle and give the rats a lil spray. Not like a full-on spray, but just barely squeezing the trigger until a little water pops out. They go nuts over this, it's hilarious to watch.

I love giving them things to explore and play with. Like getting a flattish Rubbermaid tub and putting treats (edible and chewable) in it and letting them run around and find these things..

Try a ping-pong ball, mine would push it around trying to get a grip on it. They used to love to hand wrestle too, that was my favorite thing to do.

Our younger ones like to play tag. You'll ruffle and pet them saying "tag, you're it" and let them run off, then when they come back for rubs and nibbles, we say it again...eventually they learn the game.
I got one of the clear plastic ferret balls w/the rattles inside and let them bat that around. Each of the large adult cages have the toy of wood pieces w/the nut in the middle. The first one lasted all of maybe two days! for the girls, but the boys' is still there...knawed on, but enough to roll around.
Until they get too big, you can let them run around in the little ball on the floor. Some of the fancy rat ppl actually let them just run and play/roam around the room, (with supervision) while the person's sitting on the floor, but I'm not sure I'd want them to have that much freedom....something about piddle puddles all over the carpets!:rolleye2:
