new member..new BP
First off HI everyone. I'm new to this forum..I'm new to snakes all together... I decided to take my friends BP off of him cause he was going to flight school and then Iraq and needed someone to take care of him. I didn't want the snake to go to a complete stranger that my friend would never see again and my girlfriend really wanted a BP, so here I am. I did a whole lot of reading before going to pic him up. I'm currently trying to get the temps just right, but I just can't seem to get them where I want them..I get the thermostats close to where I want them then the light is on and messes everything up. I followed a guide on here with putting one together and I have to say I think it turned out pretty decent. It's my first time building any kind of setup. Any advice on a better way to get the temps to level out? Here's a few before and after pics..

This is the shape it was in when I got it...nice tank, but really boring to me. It didn't have two hides..only 1 heat pad..and no thermostat..

I've read how a lot of people don't like the half log hides, and I'm not really a big fan so far either, but I couldn't find anything better yesterday so I'm sticking with them til I find something I want instead. The top was insulated with some aluminum foil and duct tape to keep the humidity up along with plenty of water under the light. There is also black foam core board along the sides and back. Let me know what you guys/gals think.

Hi and :welcome:
You did a good job its a big improvement from the first pic :gj:
One question I see one thermometer do you have another one on the opposite side, and also how do you measure your humidity?

I know a lot of people don't like the half logs, but with a bigger BP which it appears you have, if you put up some some sort of cover on the two sides and the back of the tank, having them up against the wall as you do she could easily be covered on top and 3 sides if she wanted...
Each BP is different, my friend's will only use his little log ones... It doesn't matter what else we put in for him... If we take the log ones out completely he just sits in the corner and refuses to go in the others.
Try the others and see if he/she prefers them though :)

I do have another digital temperature gauge on the other side as well as a Fluker's Combo gauge in the middle for the humidity. I basically took ideas from here. This is the first snake I've had and I want to try to get this right..
So before I went to work I pulled back some of the top I covered to see if that would bring the temps down a little bit and it helped. Right now the cold side is at about 81.8 and the warm side is at 88.0 I bumped it up just a little bit and now i'll wait to see what it goes to. I think what my problem was is that I was confused and thought that the reostats and thermostats were the same. I now realize that they are different and need to invest in some "thermostats". I'm pretty much broke now from putting the tank together last night so I'll have to wait til payday. Thanks for the comments!
