Anyone See That Muscular Dog?
There is a pic floating around the internet of an incredibly muscular dog. I can't find the pic for the life of me, so I hope someone finds it.
A friend and I spent our Tuesday afternoon in Manhatten doing some shopping and just enjoying the nice day. We step out of central park and I cannot believe what lay before me. I see an older woman, mid 40's walking a dog. Naturally, my eyes are drawn to the behemoth attached to the end of the leash! Its that jacked dog! I couldn't believe my eyes. I had long discarded the image as photoshop, but I cannot deny what I saw. This dog is real, and by God is it HUGE! I picked up the pace to catch up to the woman, but she seemed agitated and on edge, so our conversation wasn't terribly relevent. Just curious if anyone has any more info or new clippings about this dog? Synthetic hormones are to blame I'm assuming?

OMG! I have never seen anything like this! Does anyone know what's up with this dog?
Re: Anyone See That Muscular Dog?
It's a genetic mutation known as "double muscling" where myostatin, a protien that limits skeletal muscle growth, becomes inactive, and the animal produces excess skeletal muscle. It's most commonly observed on cattle. Many in the farming industry want to try and duplicate this mutation in their cattle because of the extra meat production, however there tends to be less fat in the meat and as such "double muscling" hurts the grade of the steak. Pretty much meaning that there would be no "prime beef" produced from a "double muscled" cow. As mentioned in the article, the animal still has normal sized organs and as such the extra bulk puts extra stress on the system and gives the animal a notably shorter life expectancy.
I find animals with this mutation to be incredibly interesting, however I would NEVER try to breed them as it is considered a health defect.
