    Roosters..
I have not named them yet, but here they are! My friend gave them to us, as she is always thinning her flock as they breed everywhere. These guys were lucky to go to us, instead of the little old lady who comes over there and grabs them to take home for food!
Here goes! They were always together and get along/do not fight. They lived together in a pig run with two huge sows.

Any ideas as to how to keep them free-range? I have them in one of the horse's stalls now; they really do not fly high, just flutter. I was thinking of maybe letting them out as it gets later in the day, and then taking advantage of their natural instinct to roost later on and letting them go back in then?

I'm surprised the two males get along so well, lucky for them! (now why do I have that commercial running through my head - I feel like chicken tonight  )

    lol!
They just lived at my friend's place together for awhile; in a pig sty. I peeked in as it was getting dark and they are cuddling!

My only experience with roosters is when I visited a friend who lived in the sticks outside Austin. She had 3 fancy roosters...and they were mean as heck! I can probably still find some rooster peck scars on my ankles if I look hard enough...glad to hear yours are not mean. :P

I'd probably name them Foster and Butterball, just to remind them to remain good boys! ;)

I was thinking about getting some chickens... Anyways, I believe you just let em run around, and they will go back to their roost at night. Also, you'll have an unbelievable lawn. [so they say] So your friend keeps them in a cage? They, may not know what to do... hmm... wow, I guess just let em run around. If there is no busy road nearby. They should remember where the water and food is.

They lived in the pig pen, but they could easily hop out through the fence if they wanted to. But they spent most of their time there. Smart, because she has alot of dogs that'd probably eat them; but they could easily hop onto the barn walls/etc to safety..
There are too many predators out here as is, to leave them out strictly speaking. I plan on building a pen that has a covered outdoor run eventually. Hawks; coyotes, the like. They are safe in the stall for now..

I heard that keeping roosters around your flock is a great way to keep them safe. A good coop should work great. You ever heard of the Chicken Tractor? http://home.centurytel.net/thecitychicken/tractors.html. Its a great way to keep chickens semi free range, without the worry of predators. Plus, with constant moving, they arent going to turn their pen into a dust bowl. good luck! :)

wow! Now those loko like what I want. Mark and I are going to have to get buildin'. I am a DIY type person about these things (we built our own horse stalls and a 12x12 tool shed out of free scrap lumber!)
