Harry Potter 7 (HYOOGE SPOILER ALERT)
I thought we might have a thread for people to talk about it without spilling over into other threads and ruining it for the folks who haven't read it yet.
Sooooo....I just finished the book last night, and sheeeesh! They killed off some of my favorite characters. I was especially saddened by Lupin and Tonks....that was just awful! I loved how Neville grew up into such a kick-ass guy though....him leading the resistance, can you imagine? The background on Snape and Dumbledore's childhoods fleshed out the story so much. Now I need to go back and read it all over from the beginning.

I agree. It explains why Severus' patronus was how it was, and how deep the connection he had with Lily was. It was very sweet, I thought. I knew he was good all along ;)
I'm also glad Harry turned out better than the snivelly, whiny child he used to be. And Neville! WOW! I love how he became the Herbology teacher, doing what he loves best.
I LOVED how the book read, very fast paced, almost like watching a movie.

I'm with you Jess. It kinda bugged me that they left another child orphaned. Not a HUGE deal, although I would have preferred to see them survive over the Malfoys. Although, I can forgive that a bit since Narcissa lied about Harry being dead.
I wasn't thrilled with how the epilogue went though. I felt like I slammed into a brick wall after all the drama. All in all though, I really loved the book.
(oh I couldn't agree more with Neville's progress into such a strong character)

Ya, to me the epilogue just kinda seemed thrown together last minute. I'm still mad that Tonks and Lupin were killed off though! Those were my two favorite characters! I also thought it was interesting that Teddy didn't go live with Harry and Ginny after they got married, since Harry is his godfather and all. I wonder if any of the werewolf traits were passed onto Teddy as well? hmm, possibly an future idea for Rowling to explore in the next few years to expand the HP world ? :D it would be nice lol.

Re: Harry Potter 7 (HYOOGE SPOILER ALERT)
I didnt even think about the Teddy and Harry thing. Why DIDNT he go live with them? Anyway I hated the ending. I dont think Snape was good at all. He was acting selfishly the whole time - he wanted Lily safe and only because he had feelings for her. If he were really a good person he would have worried about Harry and James' well-being as well. He was still in league with Voldemort even if it wasnt whole-heartedly. A truly good person couldnt have done it at all. I never liked Snape much and never will, and although I've always known that he wasnt truly EVIL, he was never a good person.
I also disagree with the Harry-Ginny relationship. In the span of 7 years their relationship has been nothing more than a few kisses and sideways glances, and then ALL OF A SUDDEN, 19 years later they are married. It just bothers me (yes yes I know a lot could have happened in those 19 years but *I* dont know about it do I?) and the names of their kids? Dont even get me started... Lily and James, eh, ok... But "Albus Severus Potter"? That's such a ridiculous name, and Rowling went completely overboard on the 'naming after other characters' bit. >_<
Harry should have died. I would have cried my eyes out and hated it, but I felt that's how the book should have ended. He and Voldemort would have both died and the rest of the wizarding world would have returned to normal.
The two good things about the ending: I thought for sure Hagrid would die by the time the series was over and Rowling gave me a good scare when he got carried off by spiders, but in the end he didnt. Hagrid was my second fave character. I would have never forgiven her if he had died. And the second thing is that Neville is now proff. of herbology, and his character grew up so much. I adored him when he was younger and he just became this great character the more and more the years went on. (I loved his gran. -lol- I pictured her as this mad old woman running around with her huge hat stunning death eaters and yelling crazy things an old bat would say. It was comical. -lol-)
I apologize if this is confusing or wordy and not wordy enough. I just finished the book a few minutes ago. My brain is still digesting.
***Could someone please explain why Harry said that the rightful owner of the Elder wand was Draco Malfoy? Or did I read that wrong and he was talking about the wand he had stolen from Draco?***

Because in the 6th book Draco took it from Dumbledore (from what I remember), therfore the wand changed masters to Draco, then Harry disarmed Draco and took the wand again, again changing masters.

Malfoy disarmed Albus, Snape only performed an execution. Snape did not EARN the wand, Draco did, even if he didn't follw through.

Re: Harry Potter 7 (HYOOGE SPOILER ALERT)
lol nice. but ya. Overall I guess I am pleased with the book. I finished it around 5 in the morning on Sunday, and i barely even remember Mrs. Weasley killing Bellatrix ( who was my favorite villan in the series. The crazy people always tend to be the best bad guys). I'm still not 100% convinced that Snape was ever really 'good'. If he knew that Lilly would be alive in the end, I'm sure he would have let everyone else burn in hell -.-... the jerk.

Re: Harry Potter 7 (HYOOGE SPOILER ALERT)
Meh, Deahtly Hallows left me feeling very unfufilled. There was so much that J.K said was going to be in this book that wasn't (for instance, she said that they'd return to the Department of Mysteries and we'd find out what the veil was, the Flying Ford would return, a non magical person would perform magic, etc.).
There were so many errors in DH, too. Like for instance on page 80 something Hermione talks about her putting a memory charm on her parents but then on page 100 and something when they're in the cafe with the Death Eaters (who are disgused as servers, which makes NO SENSE) Ron says something about modifying their memories to make then not remember they were there. He says he's never done a memory charm and Hermione says something along the lines of, "Neither have I, but I know the theory." Um... wth? That was a careless error. Also, Hermione's middle name is Jane. In DH it's changed to Jean. How did Aberforth get the mirror? There are so many things that weren't explained. The whole book felt unbelivalby rushed to me. *sigh*
I got my copy at the midnight release at Barnes and Nobel and made the front page.

I give the book three out of five. It could have been SO MUCH better. Oh well. There's still the Encyclopedia that's comming out.
