Has any one made this rack?
    http://www.dozierstudio.com/hatchrack.html

I was just curious if anyone has made this rack from these plans. it looks pretty simple, and needs no saw, only a drill. i figured i would modify it alittle (the heating mostly, and a tstat instead of rheostats).

i was thinking of making the top half with back heat, and the bottom 3 shelves with belly heat. think this could work?

I couldn't look at the web site.

    the red background blinded me.

i am going to home depot toady and see if i can get these pre fab shelves. and if i can what sizes they have. i want to make this rack able to hold 5 different types of sterilite tubs. 90 qt (for my boa), 41 qt (for adult females), 32 qt (adult males), 15 qt (young corns/young BPs), and 6 qt (with lids for hatchlings).

the 32,15, and 6 qts aren't going to be a problem, but the 41 qt is shorter so that might be a problem.

are there any tubs that are the same height no matter the qt size

I've made one with precut melamine shelving like that. My only word of caution would be, make sure you have adequate spacing between shelves. It sucks when the tubs stick.

Re: Has any one made this rack?
yea that wouldn't be too good. since i won't be recessing the flex on the bottom of the shelves, i need to have enough room so the flex doesn't roll. i was just gonna use some cardboard, extra sheeting, something to give me a space.

but thank for the advice jamie.

The Sterilite clearview tubs are the same height(the 15qt and the 32qt). I just made an 8-level rack using those and it looks very nice.

Re: Has any one made this rack?
i have been working all night and i have some plans drawn out.

the way i have things set up there are 3 sections (each with it's own thermostat). the top 12" of the shelf will be for hatchlings, in 6 qt shoe boxes. there will be 2 shelves like this heated with 11" flex as back heat. second section is going to be heated with back heat again, and will be for the 32 qt and 15 qt tubs. being on a separate thermostat this will be for my corns and lucy. then moving down i will have the same spacing shelves for 32 qt, 15 qt but this time with belly heat. these three shelves will be for my balls. they will have 4 inch flex controlled by another thermostat. the bottom shelf will be a 90 qt tub, which is 33 x 12 x 12, which i have my boa in, but will be a utility drawer. each strip of belly heat flex will be independently wired so i can unplug it and the shelf won't heat.

all this depends on how tall i can get the side shelves at the depot. i plan on just building it using the tubs to measure, then worry about the heat after i get it all assembled.

i will defiantly post some pictures while i am working on it. from reading the thing over it's not to much work and the only tool you need is a drill.
