Female v. storri layed her eggs
One of my female Storr's monitors layed her first eggs on the 13th, so I figured that I would share.
She had 'dug in' for a few days and I noticed her basking and thin.

After about 20 minutes of digging, I found the first egg.

Seems like she gave me a clutch with only one good egg. Could have been several reasons for this, and they should be worked out for the next clutch.

Hopefully I can get the lone egg to hatch....but it is going to be a long wait. I have a feeling I will probably be getting a few more clutches next month.
Have a good one, Daniel
Re: Female v. storri layed her eggs
too bad about the only 1 fertile egg. Good luck waiting that out.
I remember you were talking about switching around the enclosure but was firmly dissuaded from that. What is it you think you did to change things around and or mess her up? Just curious.

Thanks. Hopefully not that long of a wait. I have it incubating at 85 deg, so maybe 70-90 days...ha ha
I think the main reason for the infertile eggs is that she was without a male for so long and this was her and the males first go at breeding. Whatever the problem is it may be all internal (i.e. she had old eggs inside her, the male didn't do his job good enough, etc.).....nothing I can really do about that so I will give them another shot to see if I get the same results. If I get bad eggs again, I will modify my husbandry some more.
I have some varanus tristis orientalis on reserve(they have not hatched yet) with a breeder, so I am looking forward to getting those in the next couple of months. It will give me something a bit different to work with.....ha ha....quick and a whopping 24" maximum size (twice as big as the storri) ;)
You still interested in getting dwarf monitors?
Re: Female v. storri layed her eggs
I'm sorry, I thought you meant like you changed something around or such. oops. But yeah, will probably have better luck next time. But hey, they bred and that one egg looks viable so thats the first step! Better luck in 6 weeks or so...

always, haha
and have fun with those freckleds. They sound fun from what I've read, plus NERD had a clutch recently hatch when I was there last year and they were definitely awesome looking(may have been black heads, all I remember was they were damn cool, and they were tristis).
**the viable egg does look much better than Jon's egg that his ackie hatched from too, so that's a great start
Re: Female v. storri layed her eggs
Congrats Daniel, crossing all my fingers for you.
Re: Female v. storri layed her eggs
Hoping for a female in that egg!
Congrats Daniel! I hope you can have amazing success with those wonderful little critters.... When you start producing offspring for the tristis let me know...I know they'll just be hatchlings...but still.;)

Ha ha....they grow fast ;) ....something like breedable in 6 months...ha ha..
...there were only two eggs without reservations on them....so hopefully I get a pair(and the eggs hatch)...If not, I think the guy is expecting another clutch to be layed in the next month....so I could get another group in about 6 months...ha ha...
