    Eeep, scary behavior
I bought my bp about a month ago, since then he has been nothing but docile and easy going in terms of eating and behavior. However just tonight I got home from a friends house and went in to my room and saw him poking his head out of his hide, I don't really see him doing this unless I drop a mouse in and he does it to ambush them. I thought well maybe he sees me and wants to come out. So I take off his hide and he lays motionless, I move my hand to the back of his body to get ready to pick him up and in a mere .2 seconds he does an about 180 and curls his neck up in an S shape like hes about to strike at any moment. I flinched and fully expected to get tagged but he never budged. I've never seen him do this and usually will crawl up my arm when it enters as if he knows hes about to get picked up.

Why would he act so defensive? I eventually picked him up and he was "speed slithering" I guess I would call it through my hands as if he was pissed off. Usuallly he just casually explores as he intertwines lazily through my fingers. I've never been bit and would really like it to stay that way although im prepared for it to happen as im sure it will sometime or another. I dont think he was hungry as he had just eaten about 3 days ago.

maybe he wasnt in the mood to be picked up. another possibility is that it could be preparing to shed and is starting to get defensive.

They will certainly have their cranky or "off" days, I believe. Maybe you smelled differently coming home from your friend's house. Maybe he got startled by your approach and remained on the defensive afterward. Maybe he just didn't want to be messed with for whatever reason.

I'm 99.999% sure it will be a very temporary phase. ;)
