    Ball Python Sizes
    Hey Guys:

As I've stated in a few other threads, I have a young ball python that I recently purchased, and I am new to the hobby. I've read about the full grown size 4-5 feet etc, but I am curious on how fast these guys grow.

What is the size of your BP and age?

How much do they grow a year on average, etc?

To be honest with you. They grow at there own pace, individually. Each bp is different. For example i have an 05 female thats only at 750 grams (shes healthy) and an 05 pastel male at almost 900 grams. Weird ha. So like i said they are all different.

I agree with the "at their own pace" theory. I've got an 06 male pastel at just under 300g, an 06 normal female at just under 500g now, and have seen 06 normal females as high as 1000g.

This brings up another interesting point... I think BP owners measure more often in weight than length. Weight is generally a better indicator of health than length, as long as they're not obese.

I learn something new every day here. What is the best method for weighing? Postal scale?

I said this earlier on another post but ill say it again. Support the people who better the herp hobby by producing better equipment. Reptile basics or pro exotics has the perfect scales available on there websites. Or kingsnake classifieds.

This is the scale we have and I just love it! Goes up to 7,000 grams but still can weigh my itty bitty crested gecko and those lovely small bp hatchlings. I'd highly recommend it.

We don't have the AC adaptor but quite honestly the thing just doesn't eat through batteries all that quickly. I love the "hold" function so you can remove and put the snake away and not lose the reading while you're doing that....very handy!

I absolutely love my scale. I'll look and see what brand it is. I got it on eBay for around $20 and it weighs up to 35lbs in 5g increments. Just LOVE it!
