Not sure where else to post this but I thought others might like to see the story. There are quite a few pics of the snake as well.

just frustrating...what i don't understand is why they don't use the snake measurer!

The trouble with measuring the reticulated python is that he wouldn't stay still enough to get an accurate measurement.

Now it is ok to release rat snakes into Fla.?

From the pictures it didnt look to me like it was that agressive, I cant watch the video though. Very beautiful snake though. At least they are not going to kill it.

well it's Florida...and rat snakes thrive in Florida and pose no threat to animals or children...

edit...i should say 'no threat to pets, such as cats and dogs'...of course they pose a threat to little lizards and frogs :D

It may well be they are referring to cornsnakes which are native. Many people here call the cornsnakes "ratsnakes", and specifically call yellow species "rats" while reddish ones are "corns".
I assume since they presumably eat rats in the corncribs, they call them both.
So he would be possibly referring to releasing a CORN snake which would be native, and if referring to a rat, at least he got the country right in saying ratsnakes are native to the US(at least some are, most folks not knowing there are many species of ratsnake from all over the globe)
At least that retic looked pretty healthy, and couldn't have been that aggressive the way it was lying over his shoulders and not constricting. Surprising to me when he had it in a tight grip behind the head.

Interesting. They made it look too dramatic when putting him in the "bucket." Thanks for posting this story. And it certainly was someone's pet.

Videos like that tic me off....Squeezing the snakes head with a very tight grip when it was not even trying to bite...wasn't musking....and wasn't trying to constrict around his neck....just a bit over dramatic.....
