    Is this normal
Okay so on Sat my daughter got her first BP "Flames". Last night and tonight roughly about the same time he's come out of his hide checked everything out then went up onto the fake vine that is suction cupped to the back "wall" of the cage he then hangs up there for 10-15 before going for drink. If it matters this is the quiet time of the night as the two dogs get put away every night around 11p so the house gets really quiet and most of the lights are dimmed.

The temps read currently 93.4 on the hot side and 82.7 on the cool side humidity is at 62. I have the temp probes right on top of the heat sources under the substrate so I think the temps are pretty accurate.

Just curious as I thought that BP's prefered to be on the ground and he really seems to like resting on this vine about an inch from the top of the cage.

    Hi,

Sounds like he's settling in fine.:)

Some BP's do like to climb - they just never seem to be any good at it and fall off a lot.:P

As a hatchling that's not really a problem but when they get heavier then there is a possibility of them falling awkwardly or landing on something rigid and hurting themselves - it's only a possibility though and many bp's climb their whole lives without doing themselves any harm.

But with mine I figured it wasn't worth it and didn't put anything in the tanks they could climb any great height on.

Thank You for your fast response... he does seem to really enjoy the hanging up there. I guess as he gets bigger we will have to keep this in mind with maybe some sort of drift wood in his cage just so he can enjoy himself.

Here, maybe this can help you feel better about that behavior

My little girl LOVES to climb...hence all the greenery and the branches. And I've only seen her slip once for a short distance. :)

Sounds to me like he's a happy snake. If he was constantly roaming around the cage and never relaxing I would say he was stressed but that is not the case here.

Question, is his UTH on the inside of his tank under the substrate or outside of the tank? You said the probe was directly on top of the UTH under the substrate. If you have it inside I would remove it ASAP and put it on the outside bottom to reduce the risk of burning your snake is something goes wrong with your stat.

i wouldn't take it off the inside of the tank if you have put it there, it will ruin the uth, your best bet is to put a piece of glass on top of it or something similar then replace your substrate, as soon as you peel off a uth you've pretty much broken it, or rig up a floating floor of some sorts

Nope the UTH is outside the tank however the probe is under the cage carpet and scattered carefresh. No burns for our pretty boy.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. The pics of the BPs hanging up high are both cute. I'll have to get a pic of him tonight if I'm still up while he's out.
I'm thinking I might get a smooth bird perch place it the tank length wish securely then wrap a fake vine around it. So he has a secure place to get up on so the whole thing doesn't come down with him.
