Just curious

Ok I know that Nile monitors, Savannas can get really big, I mean big I saw a Savanna that wasover 6+feet and probably weighed 200+ pounds reason I know is I am 160 lbs 5'9 this thing with its tail was half as long as I was tall and its midsection was twice what mine was. I would say its mid section was the size of a nicely beefy man. its base of the tail was the thickness of my upper leg he was beefcake.

So my question is do any of you take them for walks on a leash? I dont think this is viable but who knows, I am sure you have all seen that skateboarding bull dog, so I wouldnt doubt some monitors would love to go for walks. (no stray cat problems in those areas I am sure)

Monitors are not dogs. They don't like being cuddled, going for walks, or sitting on someone's lap.....yet people do it all the time.....I guess that says why the majority of people have no success in keeping their monitors. The animals always suffer because the keepers are not educated enough to understand how monitor lizards are supposed to function.

When I take Moggie(my blackthroat monitor) out on a leash, it's not me taking her for a walk. It's me with a leash to make sure she can't run off. I bascially follow her with a 20 foot lead so she can wander some. Only once in a while.
Monitors are not exactly pet-pets. They are more captives.
There are people who seem to routine take their lizards out on leashs, and maybe they are the exception. Who knows what goes on in lizards' brains?
In general, I wouldn't suggest that a monitor would enjoy being walked though. Especially being told where they SHOULD walk.

Savannah monitors do not get 6' or 200 pounds. Three to four feet is average. Large one's get to five feet, and are quite rare. Big chance that you did not see a savannah monitor.

Walking, no. They can escape quite easily and are quite fast. You could lose it then your lose monitor would be considered a "nuissance". And if caught could possibly be put down.

Make sure they are legal in your area/state as well.

I put him on the leash about once a week. For a walk?...NO
It is just a leash to make sure he can't get away. But he seems to like his outside time.

I hold him all the time...He will hang out for sometimes only minutes...to hours it just depends on what I guess in going on in his mind. Then he gets up and does some wandering.

NOTHING like a dog...
