from experience I had the exact same setup as you...a log and by the dimensions it seems like the exo-terra cave...and well my snake never touches the log...so I would just get two caves one on each side. petsolutions.com has that stuff really cheap

I get plastic bowls from the 99cents store that the snake can fit into nice and snug (fliped over with a hole for entry). Bp's usually don't like logs because they are not secretive enough way to open and exposed. They like to be well hidden which makes them feel secure. The best thing is to have identical hides on the cool and warm side so they don't pick a favorite hide just desired temp zone.

I'd keep the hides nice and snug so the little ones feel secure. I use those small plastic bowls for mine there nice and cheap and work great.

I don't think you quite understand the concept we're trying to get across here.. You need to be doing what's best for your pet, not what's best for your pocketbook. Even with that attitude though, your behavior still confuses me. We're suggesting spending under a dollar on bowls and you're defending purchasing a "pretty" hide for significantly more.

I also recommend using small plastic or ceramic bowls. I buy my hides from wal-mart for 56 cents each. They're small enough to use with babies, and will work until they're over 500g.
