Is a pastel columbian boa worth $399?

theres one at the pet store I'm getting really attached to for $399, is it worth it?

see, I really don't understand this question and others like it. Is it worth it to you? Can you afford it? Why ask, no one can tell you how you feel about it. Especially since you say you've become attached to it.

Could you find a pastel c boa for cheaper? ... I'm sure of it, but the price is what you want to pay. What do you think that snake is worth. If you think it's worth $400... then that is up to you to decide.

well I'd rather get one for cheaper online no matter how attached I am to this one. What's a good site for this type of snake? And also I wanna get one thing clear, it is being sold as a Columbian Boa, now from what I understand this is a subspecies of red-tailed boa? boa constrictor imperator?

I've seen pastel for much more and I've seen them for less. One of our members actually currently has one or more for sale.
Personally if I felt attached to something I would probably get it, no matter if I found this cheaper. Now if it was way overpriced, I'd think twice, but I think picking something you like is more important then getting something cheap.
I put much more worth on things I like rather than something that's just going to be cheaper, but that's just me...

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Colombians are imperator... was that the question?

technically... it's not a subspecies of rtb, it's a subspecies of Boa constrictor. Red tail is just a name people assign based on looks. You could also go with common boa or Colombian boa or even boa.

I feel as if you need to do some more research on this subject. If you're not even sure about the name of the animal you're purchasing, I feel you need to do some more looking around.

And I completely agree... buy an animal based on it's own merit, not it's price tag.

MOST columbian RTBs are BCI, but some are BCC. This is most likely a pastel BCI and $400.00 is a common retail value. However, do you think that having the snake for a potential 20-35 year span is worth the $399.00? I would say so, especially if you are becoming attached to it. Would you rather raise this boa or a pastel that's $250.00? Personality is more important here because this will be a long term commitment. Good luck.

like the others say price is irrelavent really, because your gonna spend twice that on husbandry and caging etc, so have fun :rockon:
