Need to pick some brains :)
Okay...time for a couple of questions that I have compiled.
1) My temps are really good but my humidity just won't rise above 43% unless I mist like three times a day. A pic of current setup is in my gallery, with the new change of a wider 'dog dish' water bowl. The substrate used now is repticarpet. Many of you have stated that aspen is a good bedding, so I will ask if it is a good choice for me to raise humidity. I'm just worried about larger pieces in there hurting her.
2) I am currently making plans to build her 'grown up' cage myself and have been finding some great references through searches here. My plan so far is for a 42"Lx18"Wx18"H top grade 3/4" plywood cage using water-based stain and poly coats to seal with screen vents at top of each side, a wood framed plexi door hinged at bottom, and a 1/2" raised (and sealed) plexi floor (above the wood base) with either flexwatt or UTH for bottom heat. Is this a good plan??
(The odd measurements are to fit the space I have, FYI)
Any info/opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

No if you want to improve your humidity you will need to switch to something such as Cypress mulch, Repti-Bark, Bed-a-beast etc rather than Aspen

I'm having the exact opposite problem with my tubs. I can't get the humidity DOWN. it's currently at about 70-75% constantly. I've moved the bowls off the heat, and done all the re-arranging I can, but nothing seems to be helping... Newspaper as substrate.
It DID help with my girl's last shed though.. This is her first shed with me (she had shed the day I bought her) and it was all in one piece. It was a "donut" shed, but I was able to get it unrolled in one piece even...
Re: Need to pick some brains :)
if the overhead lights are your heat source , that is probably cooking the humidity out. switching to a uth, type heat pad /mat made for reptiles will help.
use a thermostat with those!

Not to high-jack this thread, but you could try switching to a water bowl with a smaller diameter, smaller surface area= less humidity.. I keep a dehumidifier running in my basement to keep humidity down when it gets bad as well.

Did you drill/melt holes into the tubs? If so, you can cover most of them with tape to help retain humidity.
I don't know if I live in magic-humidity-retaining land, but I use flat newspaper substrate and I always have too much humidity!

Me two the weather in NY has been real muggy lately by me. I know its almost like to different ends of the world where I am and you are but its been crazy here too. Don't remember there ever being as many thunderstorms as there have been this year in NY.

Oh; I hear you! Every day it is a debate on whether or not to leave windows open.. I love me a good t-storm.. but this is overkill. :/

My town got hit hard by a storm not long ago, I was the closest I've ever been to a lightening strike that was massive. Made my ears hurt and my neck tingly, very strange.

One thing you could try is using a clay bowl for your water dish, clay holds the water in. I find that if I use clay bowls for my water my humidity goes up by 15-20. Just a suggestion for you, im no expert but that's been my experience.
