steralizing tank

I am sterilizing my Ball tank and items. He passed on and I am giving his tank to a freind that is plannign on getting a RTB What is the best chemical cleaning agent to use? I have used Chlorhexadine in the past I just want to make sure that this is ok or if I should use something stronger.
I want to make sure that I disenfect everything so that if my Ball had any infectious disease besided the infection he got from a rodent bite the it doesnt get passed on.

Generally a 5% bleach solution should be sufficient to kill anything that might be contaminating the tank. Plus it's cheap and easy to use...

A bleach solution will work fine, just make sure that you rinse everything extremely well. You can also use full strength Chlorhexidine. Keep all surfaces wet with either the bleach or Clorhexidine for 20 minutes and then rinse well.

Actually to properly disinfect you need a 1:10 (10%) bleach solution. That's the CDC recommendation so that's what I've always gone with just to be safe. Remember when working with strong bleach mixes you need to wear gloves and protect your eyes from splashes. Repeated rinsing with fresh clear water is required afterwards of course.

When I'm disinfecting I fill the container full with the 10% solution and let it sit at least one hour, then scrub every inch, then start fresh water rinses. Then I usually set the enclosure aside, leave it for 24 hours, then re-rinse in clear water. Then I wipe it dry with clean paper towels. I'm very anal about making sure when it's clean....it's clean! :)
