to hide or not to hide... that IS the question!
so... for all you rack owners... do you have hides for your balls in your racks?
at what age, (if ever) do you no longer use hides for them?
Re: to hide or not to hide... that IS the question!
I have 25 tubs and only have hides in 3 of them. All 3 are WC snakes that spend most of their time in the hides...and wouldn't eat till I put the hides in with them. All my others are CB and even when I tried putting hides in wouldn't use them.
On a side note - my 3 hatchlings (in a rack) all have hides and use them.
Re: to hide or not to hide... that IS the question!
i put the hides in and let the snakes decide. most use them , some don't. without the hides they really don't have a choice??

I put hides in all my tubs including hatchlings. Some use them and some lay on top of them when they foul the tub. Either way I prefer to give them the option.

i thought u had to have hides.
just a quiki how do u heat a rack becasue it would cost thousends to buy UTH's for each tub.. and do you have a warm side and cool side.

Flexwatt is the most common means of heating racks, and yes, they have a hot and cold side.

Depending on how the rack is designed the rack itself can act like one big hide. In my case all the tubs are seperated from each other and it is relatively dark so they must feel secure (because I haven't had any shed, feed or aggression issues).
But as you can see some put hides in anyway...it is just a matter of what works for your snakes based on your setup.

All of mine have hides. I think it offers them that "touched on all sides" thing Adam is always preaching about :D
Re: to hide or not to hide... that IS the question!
I only have one with a hide in my racks. All the tubs are on there own little shelf and it's pretty dark in there any way. The one with a hide had issues with eating and once I put the hide in with her she began to eat with gusto. Everyone else is doing well with out the hides. I do think that the balls grow better in the hides than when they are in aquariums. The few that are in aquariums for quarintine seem to grow slower than the guys in the racks I havent figured out why yet. It could be that it is easier to keep their temps and humidity right in the racks.

I provide one hide to the my sub-adults and adults some use it all the time some on and off, babies are provided with 2 hides.
