Is my snake the only one without a sense of gravity?
Never fails, EVERY. TIME. I take her out, if I walk away for a SECOND, she falls off of somethign and lands on her back or her head. It's gotten to where I've been catching her mid-air. If she doesnt trust me after all this, then we've got issues. -lol-
And before anyone says it's because she's scared and trying to get away or something similar, thats not at all the case. She's willing to sit with me for quite some time, but as soon as she starts exploring, she does NOT look where she's going and will just wander over the edge of the bed without a second thought...
*sigh* -lol-

Hehe yeah my little one is very apt to crawl right off my lap... always have to keep a close eye on him. He loves to explore but doesnt quite realize how far away the floor is.
My big girl has gotten better, and has gotten stronger so she's less likely to fall, but she has her ditzy moments.
Re: Is my snake the only one without a sense of gravity?
My little guy not only does it when i take him out but he also does it in his cage too. I have some fake leaves hanging from the top of his tank that he enjoys climbing on. Sometimes he'll just slither right off them and do a face plant into the side of the cage. He'll do it several times till he decides to take a break.
Re: Is my snake the only one without a sense of gravity?
These are fairly heavy bodied, ground dwelling snakes. Not to say they can't climb but they don't do it well. For the sake of your snake's physical safety, please protect it well so falls do not occur.
Re: Is my snake the only one without a sense of gravity?
yea, mine is just getting to the point where he's big enough wrap around the back of my neck and sit on my shoulders. But, I tried it once and he started trying to explore and slipped off. I'm 6'2" so that means it was over a 5' fall. Luckily the carpet broke his fall though. :( :snake:
He wasn't too freaked out but I put him up for the night. One thing I've noticed is that crawling on fabric for them is about the same as walking on ice for us. It just doesn't generate any friction against their scales.

frankykeno, of course I try to keep her safe. She just doesnt make it easy.

Don't walk away from her, and keep better control of her - if she's clumsy and you know that, then don't let her get to the edge of the bed - it's your responsiblity, as Joanna said, to keep her safe. Never, have any of mine been left alone to be able to fall on their heads multiple times as yours has.

Cept snakes don't have too far to fall. :D
Yeah, my BP is pretty clumsy, he slips off of his branch a lot, that doesn't mean much, it's about 2 in off the ground. :)
Re: Is my snake the only one without a sense of gravity?
mine never get a chance to fall while out of their tanks. we're too paranoid about them getting into small spaces that we can't get them out of! lol. but floyd has a vine in his tank that goes from one tree to another and he loves strolling on this vine but almost always ends up in the water dish down below! lol! i think he likes a challenge!
