    St. Augustine Alligator Farm
Last year at Daytona at the auction (it was a blast) I bid on and won 4 tickets to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm. Well, we finally got around to using them and we had a lot of fun.

Here at a few of the pics. Hope you enjoy them.

Feed me, feed me. They were crawling over each other to get to the food which looked like pre-killed jumbo rats. These were adults gators that were about 12 feet long.

I'm not a bird person, at least not in the house, but there were some really pretty ones on perches throughout the park.

This is a lousy pic that I had to take through the screen, but it wa so cute and only about 6 inches long as an adult.

This is an "Agouti"; it looked like a 20 pound rat. :O I've seen some burms and retics that would be licking their lips if they saw this guy.

This is the strangest croc I've ever seen. I hope you can see the snout - it's only about 3 inches wide with a big bulb on the end. It's called a "Gharial".

Another beautiful bird sitting there waiting for me to take his pic.

The feathers on this one were so bright red - he was really awesome.

Finally, the juveniles - these are about 4-5 feet long. Seems like there were hundreds of them.

They also had 2 albino gators but I couldn't get close enough to take pics with the crowds around them. They were a very pale white and they had to keep them in the shade all day or they would burn . . .

A little slice of Florida. :carrot:

Awww...St. Augustine. My family and I used to go camping for a week at St. Augustine Beach once a year during the summer--and it was our beach of choice any time we went. It was about half an hour from where I used to live :) Some good memories there.

I'd never heard of the Alligator Farm, though--sounds like a fun trip!

I was there a long time ago and it was great.

They used to have Gomek which was a 25 foot saltwater croc for years until he passed away.
When they did the feeding for the public, you got to see just how massive it was. The head was the size of the guy feeding it. I have a pic somewhere. I'll try to dig it up and scan it.
    That croc was HUGE.

Cool! What's funny is, I was in Mexico last week and saw an Agouti walking around under some trees and had no earthly idea what it was. My friend asked a local "Hey- what is that?" and the guy responds "They are good to eat." :8:

Thanks Nate. They are about the same. Very nice to visit once but boy the admission prices would drive me away for a second visit.

 Maybe they are relatives to those big rat-like animals that live in the bayou down by New Orleans. As I understand it, they are eaten by some. Hmmmmmm . . .

Gomek is now stuffed and on display in his own display "house". He was huge!

They only had 1 snake; an eastern diamondback rattler. Wait, they did have a ball python; he was being used as a prop for pics of the visitors.
