Protrusions

I don't have a picture and can't really describe it, but at the vent scale of my bp Spot there are what looks to be hook type protrusions. Any idea what they are? Is it normal? I noticed that when Spot shed today that they were there...

Are you talking about the snakes spurs? Look like little nails? If so they are supposed to be there they are what is left of their legs (from millions of years ago). They are used in mating.

If not I think we need a picture or better description of what you are seeing.

Originally I thought mine didn't even have them. They are very delicate. To me, they look like he has a couple of small wood splinters that happen to be identical. I can only barely feel them if I brush very softly.

Sounds like spurs to me...

if it is on both sides of the vent and looks like little claws then that would be the Spurs .. *already said :D * Nothing to worry about... I will see if I can find a photo somewhere in my computer... I know some one else is bound to have a photo somewhere...

ok well couldnt find any photos so i had to take some.

#1 she just shed and then took a nice poo so her little bum is dirty and a little red from sheding about 25 min ago.

lord jackel is very right in that this is what is left over from snakes having legs, and used for breeding.

if this is not what your seeing (remember each snakes spur size is different, Angel's are very small.) then we will need a picture or drawing.

Nope they don't. Some males have quite small spurs, some females have fairly large spurs. Only probing or popping by an experienced vet, breeder or hobbyist is a reliable way to know if you've got a boy or girl snake. VPI's DVD has the most incredible shots of a male using his spurs to tickle a female during breeding. I was amazed!
