Is misting required?

In my room it constantly sits at 37* humidity, so when i added the water bowl into my tubs yesturday, my humidity was 49* this morning. If i move the waterbowl a little farther back ( closer to the heat tape) it will be 50 or a little higher. Now if i am already consistantly at 50* humidity, is there a need to mist at all?

I dont have any holes in my tubs yet. So I can either leave it the way it is and have it be 50* humidty and no misting or put holes in tubs which would lower the humidity and then require me to mist.

You need to have SOME holes in the tub so fresh air can circulate. Stagnant air is worse than low humidity.


Just a few holes should be plenty...and that may not lower the humidity levels too much. If you maintain a constant 45-50% humidity, I wouldn't worry about misting, but maybe put a damp papertowel or something in there during the days that the snake is in shed.

What are you using for substrate in the tubs?

I live in a very dry climate (13% today) and I am fine with 4-6 holes in the tub and and wide (not necessarily deep) water bowl if humidity is a problem. Sounds like you are fine, a couple of mists when someone is in shed is always a good idea.

i am using newspaper as the substrate.


I'll take care of those holes this weekend and see how far the humidity drops.

Try cypress mulch. It is great at holding humidity in the tubs.
