night time temps

i cant seem to find any info on what temp the housing should be at night.

do i just keep my lamp off and let the housing get room temp?

I don't know if night drops are necessary, I just leave the cool side temps at room temp, which never dip below 75. Warm side always stays as is.

If you're not breeding, you should leave the temps steady 24/7. Night drops are for seasonal cooling to stimulate breeding activity.

so if i understand correctly, i should leave my lamp on at night?
if so, my snake doesnt need a dark period of day?

i turned the lamp off last night and just went and checked the temp this morning, 81 degrees.

i live in florida and our house rarely drops below 80 in the summer.

Dark periods are unneccessary. However you might want to get an under the tank heater to supplement your temperatures -- I'm not sure if 81 was your warm or cool side, but it sounds low.

Dark periods most definitely are necessary. 24/7 of light will stress your snake out. You want constant temps 24/7 unless breeding. 82-84 on the cool side, 92-94 on the warm. An undertank heater controlled by a thermostat is your best bet.

sounds like i need an under-tank heater then.

ugg why would they suggest me getting a lamp if what i really need is a heating pad, i guess its all part of the scheme to get me to go back and buy more stuff haha.

I personally don't like using heat lamps for Ball Pythons. They do create basking areas but they also dry out the air. Under tank heat (when properly controlled by a thermostat) is the best option in my opinion.
