Nope he probably just stunned the rat and it came too. I have one snake that want constrict P/K so it can happen. Just imagian what the rats teeth and front feet are doing to the snakes insides. :(

Had one of mine do something like that with a rat pinky, it started squeeking as he started to swallow it, assuming the throat muscles finished it off as it quit making noise as he continued to swallow it as normal. Nothing to that extent by no means. And its a snake thats eaten the last 8 to 10 meals live.

We have a Trinket snake that will only eat live. He's always fast but one time he didn't even bother to constrict the mouse fuzzy (I know, it's not a rat). He grabbed it in his mouth and it was down in 20-30 seconds, still squirming.

wow...as cool as that looks...it must suck for the snake. One way I make sure the rat is dead is...

After my boy is almost done killing the mouse when it stops moving....i reassure myself of its death by moving the mouse slowly to make my snake seem that it is still alive (without him seeing me) and the snake just squeezes harder. Hasnt failed me yet.

    that is just sad. :(

both for the rat and the snake.

I have never encountered this but maybe that is because all my snakes like to 'molest' their prey after they have constricted it!
