    went with aspen..
I had my male BCI on eco-earth type bedding. He is a known burrower and likes to have a substrate to cuddle in; newspaper is fine for my BPs but does not cut it for him. So I cleaned his cage and put in aspen shavings (not shredded, but shavings, like pine but, well, aspen lol.) He loves it and spends his time hal-buried in it. I made sure to measure the temp of his heater on the actual surface of the cage floor and not above the sub. because of this. The shavings are fluffy and nice for him.. it is a great suggestion.

Our BCI's love a good thick layer of aspen to root around in and burrow in, sometimes they are totally buried in it. With Rauri as she was so big I mixed a 2/3 cypress mulch 1/3 aspen for her. We used the double milled cypress as the single milled had some huge and pretty sharp hunks of wood in it. It gave her lots to mess about it but the cypress held up better under her greater weight (the aspen just compacted too much I found with a 6 foot snake's weight lazing about on it).
