    My snake gets lumpy!?!
Sometimes my boy looks real lumpy. he kind of reminds me of an old comforter where the stuffing has shifted around the lumped up. Other times he lookes real tubular and sleek.

Does anybody know how this happens?

On his back. Not like lumps on the surface but like the body in general isn't all nice and cyclindrical. Instead its like there's spots that are bulky and spots that sink in. When he's moving around or nicely coiled he doesn't look that way but when he's in weird positions like when I'm holding him in my hand.

I've seen this kind of thing before around the tail in other photos and you can see it a little bit in this photo of mine:

I'm not really that worried there is anything wrong. But, I do wonder if this means he needs to eat more. Mostly though, I'm kind of curious because most snakes seem very uniform to me and I'm not sure what to think when I see tendon lines and lumps.

He looks fine to me, he is still young and still growing. Many people's snakes are over weight and they don't realize it or they think thats what normal is. If you are worried he is slim, what do you feed em?

Just going by the pics he looks fine to me.I think the area you are refering to being "lumpy" is where his organs and such start. If you research and see pics of where the organs and such are inplace you can see what i am talking about here.Word of advice "calm down" you are going to give yourself grey hairs from worrying to much :P ;) .Of course all jokes aside it does show me you really do care about his health and well being

As long as you are watering and feeding him appropriately with proper husbandry, it really may just be him growing into himself.

No worries, unless you can feel broken bones or see visual lumps and bumps that won't go away.

Nah I'm not really worried. I'm generally over the worry-wart new parent phase. (I swear!!)

I am watering and feeding him correctly and my husbandry is the best in the land :D LOL

I can buy the lanky teenager theory. He's growing really fast - I need to take new pictures. I was feeding him one jumbo mouse per week but I've switched to two small adults. He's probably approaching 2.5' in length and maybe 1.5" in thickness. Is there some way to guage by looking at the snake if he's at the right weight?

Uhhha we beleive you when you say your over the "worry-wart" stage  :P .Its very hard to say exactly how much a snake "should" weigh as each and every snake grows differantly. If he is sheding at least once every 4 to 6 weeks on average then he is well fed.If you can buy a scale and keep track on his weight on index cards. You can buy one from walmart in the houseware dept.
